Colonoscopy Preparation – General Instructions

We require 48 hours notice for canceling or rescheduling
any procedure or a $100 fee will be applied.
This will not be billable to insurance.

You must make transportation arrangements.
You will not be allowed to drive home.

A week prior to procedure: Please notify our office if you are on Coumadin, Plavix, or any blood-thinners or anti-coagulants. You will need to contact your cardiologist to receive clearance and to discuss how you should be taking your Coumadin, blood thinners or anti-coagulants.

Three days before the procedure: Avoid all roughage, (fruits and vegetables), and fiber foods such as foods with whole grains, or foods with seeds or skins. Suggestion of foods you should be eating include: chicken, fish, white rice, white bread or pasta, eggs, pancakes, mashed potatoes, etc.

One day before procedure: Drink a clear liquid diet for the entire day beginning with breakfast. Acceptable clear liquids include: clear broth or buillion, Gatorade (not red in color), Snapple, ice pops, Jello (not red in color), lemonade, iced tea, carbonated or non-carbonated drinks, Kool-Aid (not red in color), fruit juices such as apple or white grape juice, black coffee, or tea. You may not drink orange juice.

Day of procedure: If you take heart or blood pressure medicine, take them on the morning of the procedure. You may continue to drink clear liquids until two (2) hours prior to the procedure.

For diabetics: You must speak to the doctor managing your diabetes about your insulin or oral diabetic medication.

It is requested that a family member remain at the facility until you are ready to leave. You may not drive yourself home. Taking a taxi is not allowed without a family member or friend accompanying you. Approximate time at the facility is two and a half hours from the time of your arrival.
